Fertility Preservation in Patients With Cancer: Updated March 2025
When the Founding Executive Board of the Chick Mission met for the first time, Rhode Island and Connecticut had just passed legislation covering fertility preservation for cancer patients.
Thankfully, like minded people have advocated relentlessly on behalf of these women and due to their incredibly hard work over the last three years, there are now 18 states (as of October 2024) who’ve implemented new laws to assist women newly diagnosed with cancer.
As laws are changing all of the time, any patient denied coverage should definitely try and appeal – we’ve sourced this template from the wonderful humans at The Oncofertility Consortium. Please share this template with your doctor to complete on your behalf.
If your state has legislation mandating fertility preservation, you will find the language of the bill to reference when communicating with your insurance company. Find Your State: HERE
In addition, the ASCO and ASRM guidelines will be helpful to accompany your appeal submission.
